The Final Week?

I know I haven't blogged since Week 5 or 6. My bad. It's really a shame, as it's been one hell of a season.

When I last visited this site, Jen was on top, with me, Steph, Heather(!), Ryan, John and Scott all lurking around the top of the chart. This was right around the time Jen didn't get her picks in on time and allowed us all to get back into the picture. To this day, she still complains about what might have been if Maddie only could have pooped in a timely fashion.

Notice that nowhere in the previous paragraph did I mention Holly. That's because she was 6 points out of the lead, battling with Bill for 9th or 10th.

As of 1pm on the precipus of Week 17, Holly and Jen share the lead, with Steph, Heather(!), and me only one point behind.

In Week 17, Holly and I go undefeated in the early afternoon games, thanks to Cleveland playing hard for Eric Mangini. This, coupled with Houston finally accepting the gift-wrapped victory from New England, puts some space between the two of us and the rest of the pack. Jen stuck by her guns and took Indy, and Heather(!) took both New Orleand and New England to push her out of the running.

Going into the late afternoon games, Holly was up one on me, and up two on Steph. There was a scenario in which there could have been a 3-way tie for first: Steph needed Dallas to beat Philly and Seattle to beat Tennessee to catch Holly, and Matt needed KC to beat Denver to equal them.

Dallas did beat Denver, but Tennessee scored a late TD to beat Seattle. Steph was eliminated. This left me pinning my hopes on KC beating a depleted and divided Denver team.

And that they did. Holly and I were tied for first, with nobody able to catch us. I was obviously going to pick the Jets, so the question was whether Holly would go for the Bengals to create a winner-takes-all scenario.

As it turns out, Holly picked the Jets. Therefore, we have a tie!

As mentioned earlier in the year, I've always hated the point differential tiebreaker, and chose not to implement it into our league. Winners should be decided by picking games, and that's what will happen here.

Here's how the tiebreaker will work: Holly and I will pick the winners of the 4 playoff games next weekend. All picks must be sent in before the first game of the weekend, which I believe starts at 4:30pm on Saturday, 1/9. The person with the most games right wins the pool. If we are still tied after the weekend, we do the same thing for the divisional round on the 16th and 17th, and continue on until there is a winner.

We need to have someone to send the picks to, and the logical choice would be the previous year's winner, Dave. If it's OK, I'd like each of us to send our picks via email, and he would send the picks to everyone via email and the blog once the first game begins.

This season has been great, and it's only fitting that it lasts a little bit longer.

EDIT: Holy cow! Jen picked Cincinnati over the Jets. First off, I feel betrayed. That aside, if the Bengals win, that makes it a three-way dance for the title. Sorry for the oversight.
