Tales From Bills Camp

The Bills started showing up on campus Thursday, and I've had three significant interactions with the Bills so far. In reverse order of amusement:

3. About 5 minutes ago: a player (later identified as Kennard Cox) ends up by my office in the basement of my building (where the coaches are staying). He starts taking a bunch of clean towels from a hamper outside my office, and then notices me through my window. He gets nervous and starts to explain that they never gave him towels this morning. I tell him I don't work for the Bills, so he can take whatever he wants. So he grabs a few more towels, just in case "they do me again like that". I guess the Bills don't care if you're clean when you're listed as the 4th CB on the depth chart. Really nice guy.

2. Monday: I'm walking into the building from the parking lot, about to go through the doors. Marshawn Lynch is heading out towards the classrooms, about to exit the same set of doors. We do the awkward "you go, no you go" thing, and finally he lets me hold the door for him as he exits. He didn't run me over and flee the scene, so I take it as a positive sign of growth and maturity on his part and go about the rest of my day.

1. Last Thursday: I'm coming back from the gym after work, wearing a workout shirt and shorts and carrying three bags (one for rugby practice, one for workout clothes and my work briefcase). I'm walking up the stairs into my building, and Jason Whittle is coming down the stairs to head to the gym. He says hi to me, and then the conversation goes like this:

Whittle: Free agent?

Me: What?

Whittle: You an undrafted free agent trying out for the team?

Me: ... [light bulb goes on] Oh! No, I just work here.

Whittle: Oh, sorry about that.

Me: No problem.

Scene.

That was the highlight of my month. More tales as they happen.

Those are some great stories Savior, the Lynch one cracked me up.

Let us know if you have any more.

Next time you should say that you are a free agent, see what kind of reaction you get.

Hell... try out for the Bills if you can... what do you have to lose?

Dude, you and Steph OK out there? I've been trying to call ever since I heard about the earthquake.

Yea we're fine. It hit in the Chino Hills like 40+ miles away. A 5.8.

It was scary though. Sitting at my computer then everything started shaking, some stuff falling... me and the guy next to me ran out of the room pretty quick. I went to Steph's office and stood in the door frame with her, while he ran down the stairs. We were laughing about it afterwards at how quickly we ran out of our room.

Dude, try out for the Bills... even if you make the practice squad I bet it pays at least 100k for the year.
