We've Got Controversy

[Note: this post is in place of the League Picks post- I have a christening to go to at 12:15, and won't have time to compile the posts.  Use this as the Week 5 open thread.]

As I've mentioned subtly in my posts, I've been pretty suspicious about the legitimacy, and subsequent success, of Grammie Peg in our pool.  First off, I never thought she would join the pool, although that's not what surprised me.  The surprise came in her success, and in the nuancy of her selections.  The picks made by Gram were much too skilled for a person who seemingly does not watch games on any regular basis.

I was not the only one who was suspicious.  Jen also questioned how Gram could be doing so well.  [I think she was just jealous.]  Jen also knew that Gram was going to be out of town for the next few weekends, so there would be no way for her to make her picks on her own.  So Jen enlisted the help of a spy to get to the bottom of this; she called her mom.

Jane's job was to work in a conversation about the Pool during her weekly talk.  In that conversation, Jane found out that Gram did in fact want to be a part of the pool, but didn't know how to do it.  Gram then asked Scott to help her out, which he did.  Scott picked her team name and set her up in the pool, all of which was great.

Here's where the problem lies: Scott is also making her picks for her, by way of taking the suggestions of the newspaper and using those suggestions as her picks.  On top of that, Scott is the one logging on for Gram and making the selections.  Obviously, it's been working for her, as she's doing pretty well.  That being said, I'm not sure how I feel about allowing this to happen.

On the one hand, everyone has been told to make their own picks, without discussing their picks with others.  This was done to maintain the legitimacy of the league.  The whole point of this is to see who knows the most about the NFL, and for supreme bragging rights at family gatherings.

On the other hand, it's just Gram.  Are we going to hold her to the same standards as the rest of us?  And wasn't Scott just trying to help her feel included in this activity?  Does it really hurt anyone?

I don't know right now.  I want to see what everyone else says.

I think you are totally projecting your jealousy of Gram's picks on me, Matt. I'm doing just fine, could be better, but could also be much worse. The mystery item from the freezer isn't in my future for the moment.

I've already shared my feelings on this subject, no need to reiterate.

Green. The color of envy, of the Jets, and my favorite color. All very fitting, as is Kermit the Frog saying "It's not easy being green".
